What PNG preserves
PNG stores the decoded pixels without another lossy compression step. It does not recover detail already lost in the JPG. Converting a JPG also does not remove its background or make it transparent.
When to use PNG
Use PNG when an editor or website requires it, or before further pixel editing. Photos often become much larger as PNG files. Compare the original and result sizes before downloading.
Limits and original files
The original file is not changed. Images are decoded and re-encoded; original metadata is not preserved, and colors may differ. Large images may exceed your device's memory even within the limits. If conversion fails, try a smaller image or another browser.
