How to convert text to Base64
Text-to-Base64 conversion first encodes characters as bytes, usually UTF-8, then represents those bytes with the Base64 alphabet.

Unicode text does not map directly to Base64 characters. It first becomes UTF-8 bytes. Base64 then groups the byte bits and represents them with letters, digits, plus, slash, and optional equals-sign padding.
Worked example
Hello becomes SGVsbG8=. The equals sign is padding, not part of the original text.
How to convert text to Base64
- Paste the exact text into the ToolPixels Text to Base64 tool.
- Preserve spaces and line breaks that belong in the source.
- Select Encode Base64.
- Copy or download the standard Base64 output.
The conversion runs locally and uses UTF-8, so accented letters and other Unicode text are encoded consistently.
Small text changes create different output
A trailing space, newline, or different capitalization changes the underlying bytes and therefore changes the Base64 value. If an encoded result does not match an expected value, compare the source byte for byte.
Pasted line endings are normalized by the browser to LF. A file encoded directly elsewhere may differ if it contains CRLF line endings or a byte-order mark.
Base64 is transport encoding
Base64 is useful when binary bytes must travel through a text-only field. It increases size and provides no confidentiality, integrity check, or authentication. Anyone with the value can decode it.
- Do not use it to protect passwords or secrets.
- Do not assume a Base64 value is safe HTML or a safe filename.
- Use the standard or URL-safe variant required by the receiving system.
- Preserve the exact encoded output when signatures or hashes depend on it.
Common questions
Why does Base64 end with equals signs?
Padding completes the final four-character output group when the input byte count is not divisible by three.
How do I recover the original text?
Use the Base64 to Text tool. It validates standard Base64 and decodes the bytes as UTF-8.
