Partial weights are not a final grade

Weighted grade = sum of (grade × weight) / total weight. A grade of 90% weighted at 40% and a grade of 80% weighted at 60% give 84%.

If you enter only the 90% category with a weight of 40%, the normalized grade is 90% for that part of the course. It contributes 36 percentage points toward the full course; the other 60% is still unentered, not assumed to be zero. Letter grades and rounding rules vary by school.
