How to split a PDF by pages or ranges

Separate one PDF into chapters, chosen pages or individual-page files using the output mode that matches the job.

Open the Split PDF tool

Choose the right split mode

  • One PDF per range or page: 1-3, 5 creates one PDF for pages 1-3 and another for page 5.
  • All selected pages in one PDF: the same entry creates one four-page PDF.
  • Every page as a separate PDF: creates one output for each source page.

Commas separate selections. Hyphens make inclusive ranges, and page positions start at 1.

Split the PDF

  1. Choose one PDF in the Split PDF tool. The current limit is 100 MB and 1,000 pages.
  2. Select the output mode.
  3. When required, enter pages or ranges.
  4. Select Split PDF.
  5. Review the result summary and download each file.

The tool allows up to 100 output files, 1,000 selected pages and 200 MB of results per split. Processing happens in your browser, and the file is not uploaded to ToolPixels.

Plan clean document boundaries

Start each range at a logical opening page and include any final notes or appendix pages that belong with it. Check whether printed page labels differ from physical file positions. If one chapter starts on printed page 1 after a cover, it may be physical page 2.

Common questions

How is splitting different from extracting?

Extraction creates one new PDF from selected pages. Split mode can create several outputs at once or one file per page.

Will bookmarks and forms remain?

Advanced features may not survive document restructuring. Review bookmarks, attachments, links, forms and signatures in every output.
