How to Blur an Image Without Losing Control
A useful blur hides detail without making the whole image confusing. Start with the purpose, adjust the blur strength while watching the preview, then export a copy.

Blur changes neighboring pixels. A small radius softens texture; a larger radius removes recognizable detail. Always inspect the exported result at full size.
Choose the reason for the blur
Background softening, visual emphasis, and privacy protection need different strengths. A subtle blur can separate a subject from a busy scene. Hiding a face, address, license plate, or account number needs a much stronger effect and careful review.
The ToolPixels Blur Image tool applies an adjustable effect to the uploaded image as a whole. Crop or edit sensitive regions separately when only part of the image should change.
How to use Blur Image
- Upload the image and confirm that its orientation is correct.
- Increase blur strength until the target detail is no longer readable.
- Download the processed copy and reopen it at 100 percent zoom.
Keep the untouched original because blur is destructive: the exported pixels no longer contain the same sharp detail.
Blur strength and image size
The same numeric blur can look different on a small thumbnail and a large photograph. A radius that hides text in a preview may reveal it when the full-resolution file is opened. Test at the final display size and at the original pixel size.
If privacy matters, do not rely on a low-quality preview. Check the actual downloaded file and consider covering sensitive content with an opaque block when it must be irrecoverable.
Common mistakes
Do not assume blur is encryption. The original file remains unchanged wherever it was previously shared or backed up. Metadata may also contain information that the visible blur does not remove.
For a decorative background, stop when the foreground remains easy to understand. For privacy, favor certainty and verify every edge of the sensitive area.
Try it in your browser
The free ToolPixels Blur Image processes your file locally in the browser. Review the result and keep the original file for comparison.
