What device pixel ratio means

A ratio of 2 means one CSS pixel nominally spans two device pixels along each axis, or four over an area. A 100 CSS-pixel length therefore corresponds to 200 device pixels at that ratio. Fractional ratios are valid.

Browser page zoom and operating-system display scaling can change devicePixelRatio. Pinch zoom changes visual viewport scale without changing this ratio. Moving between displays may also change it. The value does not reveal a screen’s physical size, exact DPI or native panel resolution. Live updates listen for display changes and refresh while this page is visible; pause them to keep a snapshot.
