How to convert weight
Everyday “weight” conversions usually compare units of mass. Use exact unit definitions and label ounces and tons carefully.

1 lb = 0.45359237 kg
Multiply pounds by 0.45359237 to get kilograms. A mass of 150 lb equals about 68.04 kg. Divide kilograms by 0.45359237 to convert back to pounds.
Grams and ounces
One avoirdupois ounce equals 28.349523125 g, and 16 ounces make one pound. Thus 500 g is about 17.64 oz. This is not a fluid ounce, which measures volume, or a troy ounce, which uses a different mass.
Stones and tons
One stone is 14 lb. Convert a mixed value such as 11 st 6 lb by calculating 11 × 14 + 6 = 160 lb before changing units.
A metric tonne is 1,000 kg. A US short ton is 2,000 lb, while an imperial long ton is 2,240 lb. “Ton” alone is ambiguous.
Mass and force are not interchangeable
Kilograms and pounds in ordinary conversion tables are mass units. Force is measured in newtons or pound-force and depends on acceleration. Keep full precision during calculation, then round the final result to suit the original measurement.
