How to add an image watermark to a PDF
Place a logo, stamp or other still image on chosen PDF pages without changing the original file.
Open the image watermark toolPrepare the watermark
Use a PNG when you need a transparent background around a logo. A JPG works for a solid rectangular image. Crop extra whitespace first because the tool sizes the complete image, including any empty border.
Choose subtle settings first. A moderate image width and low opacity keep text readable. Increase either only after reviewing the exported PDF.
Add the watermark step by step
- Open the Add Image Watermark to PDF tool and choose one PDF.
- Enter the physical pages to change, such as 1-3, 5. Page numbering starts at 1.
- Choose a still PNG or JPG as the watermark.
- Set image width, position, margin and opacity. The margin is measured in PDF points; 72 points equal one inch.
- Select Add image watermark, review the result and download the new PDF.
For a logo in a corner, choose a corner position and add enough margin to keep it away from the page edge. For a centered ownership mark, use a larger width with lower opacity.
What a watermark does not do
An image watermark is a visible overlay. It does not encrypt the PDF, redact underlying content or prove ownership by itself. Keep the source file, and check every affected page because pages can have different dimensions or rotations.
Common questions
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Enter individual pages or inclusive ranges. Use the document's physical page positions, which may differ from printed page labels.
Will the PDF be uploaded?
The ToolPixels tool processes the PDF and watermark image in your browser. Files are not uploaded to ToolPixels or saved by the tool.
