How to convert volume
Volume conversions may use cubic length factors or named capacity units. Always identify whether gallons, pints, and fluid ounces are US or imperial.

1 L = 1,000 mL = 1,000 cm³
One cubic meter contains 1,000 liters. A container holding 0.75 m³ therefore holds 750 L. One milliliter is exactly one cubic centimeter.
Cube length conversion factors
Because 1 ft = 12 in, 1 ft³ = 12³ = 1,728 in³. Applying only the linear factor is a common error. Convert all three dimensions to the same unit before multiplying if you are calculating a box volume.
US and imperial gallons differ
One US liquid gallon is exactly 3.785411784 L. One imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 L. Therefore, 5 US gallons is about 18.927 L, while 5 imperial gallons is about 22.730 L.
The systems also define different pints and fluid ounces. Keep the regional label in the final result.
Volume is not mass
Liters cannot be converted directly to kilograms without knowing the substance’s density and conditions. A US customary cup also differs from a metric cup and the cup used on some nutrition labels, so choose the definition from the source.
