How to Use a Video Trimmer
A video trimmer removes unwanted footage from the beginning and end of a clip. The key is to set the boundaries precisely, preview the complete selection, and allow time for browser-based export.

Choose a supported video, set the start and end times, preview the selection, then trim and download the MP4. Keep a clean copy of the source because exporting re-encodes the selected clip.
How to use the video trimmer
- Open the ToolPixels Video Trimmer and choose an MP4 or WebM file that plays in your browser.
- Play or scrub to the first frame you want. Pause and use the playhead as the start, or enter a time in seconds.
- Move to the point where the clip should stop and set the end time. The end time is excluded from the export.
- Preview the selection from beginning to end.
- Select Trim video, wait for processing, then preview and download the MP4.
The source limit is 50 MiB, 5 minutes, and 1920 by 1080 pixels. A selected clip can be from 0.1 to 60 seconds long.
Set accurate cut points
Start a little before the important action or speech rather than directly on it. At the end, leave enough time for the final word, movement, or reaction to finish. Decimal seconds make small corrections possible.
When timing matters, watch once for picture and once for sound. A visually clean cut can still clip the beginning of a spoken word or end while room sound is changing.
A simple trimming workflow
| Pass | Focus | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| First | Content | Identify the exact moment worth keeping |
| Second | Start | Allow a natural lead-in without dead time |
| Third | End | Keep the final action or sentence complete |
| Final | Playback | Check picture, sound, and pacing together |
What happens during export
The selected range is re-encoded as H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4. The result fits within 1280 by 720 pixels, preserves aspect ratio, and is not upscaled. Re-encoding can change quality. Subtitles, extra audio tracks, and metadata are not retained.
The browser downloads the media engine only when an export starts. Processing can take longer than the clip itself, especially on a phone. Keep the tab open, and use the cancel control if you need to stop the export.
Why a video might not trim
MP4 and WebM are containers, and each can hold different codecs. A file extension alone does not prove that the browser can play or decode the video. Damaged, encrypted, or unusually encoded files may fail.
- Confirm that the source plays in the preview.
- Keep the file and selection within the displayed limits.
- Use a current browser and close memory-heavy tabs if processing stalls.
- Try a shorter selection before attempting the full 60-second limit.
Trim video online without uploading it
The free video trimmer processes the selected file locally in your browser. Your video is not uploaded to ToolPixels, but the browser still needs enough memory and processing time to create the MP4.
