How to remove line breaks from text
Removing line breaks joins separate lines. The key choice is what replaces each break: nothing, a space, or a custom separator.
Open the Remove Line Breaks toolChoose a separator before joining lines
Replacing a line break with nothing joins the adjacent characters. Replacing it with a space keeps words apart. A comma, semicolon, or pipe can turn one-item-per-line text into a delimited list.
Example
red
green
blue
With , as the separator, the result is red, green, blue.
How to remove line breaks
- Paste the source into the ToolPixels Remove Line Breaks tool.
- Choose a space for prose, no separator for deliberate fragments, or a custom delimiter for lists.
- Decide whether blank lines should be treated differently from single line breaks.
- Run the conversion and inspect word boundaries.
- Copy or download the joined text.
Repair text copied from a PDF
PDF text extraction often adds a newline at the end of every displayed line. Replacing each single break with a space can rebuild paragraphs, but hyphenated words at line ends need manual review. Joining conver- and sion with a space gives the wrong result.
Blank lines may mark real paragraph boundaries. Preserve them or process paragraphs separately if the final text needs readable structure.
Line endings can differ
Windows commonly stores CRLF line endings, while Unix-like systems use LF. Browsers often normalize pasted line endings. A reliable line-break remover recognizes line boundaries rather than searching for one platform-specific character sequence.
Do not use this operation on CSV records, source code, subtitles, addresses, or poetry unless you intend to change their structure.
Common questions
Why did two words run together?
The line break was removed with an empty separator. Use a single space when the adjacent fragments are separate words.
Can I turn lines into a comma-separated list?
Yes. Use a comma followed by a space as the custom separator, then check whether any original line already contains commas.
