Ranges and sampling
How to generate a random number
Set the smallest and largest allowed integers, decide how many results you need, and choose whether duplicates are permitted.
Open the Random Number GeneratorBoth bounds are included. A minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 can return 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.
Generate numbers step by step
- Open the free Random Number Generator.
- Enter the minimum and maximum, including negative values if needed.
- Choose up to 1,000 results.
- Turn on No duplicates only when sampling without replacement.
- Generate, then copy or download the result if you need a record.
With duplicates allowed, every draw is independent and a value may repeat. With no duplicates, the requested count cannot exceed the number of integers in the inclusive range.
Choose the correct model
| Scenario | Duplicates? |
|---|---|
| Simulate repeated die rolls | Allow |
| Select 5 distinct rows from 1 to 100 | Disallow |
| Create test values where repetition is realistic | Allow |
Random selection does not correct a biased source list. Define eligible values before generating, and set the range before seeing results.
Common questions
Can zero or negative numbers appear?
Yes, when they fall within the selected bounds.
Can I reproduce the same output?
No seed is exposed. Save the output when exact reproduction matters.
