How to generate a random HEX color

Generate one or more six-digit RGB colors, preview them, then test contrast and context before adding one to a design system.

HEX anatomy: in #3A7BD5, 3A is red, 7B is green and D5 is blue. Each pair ranges from 00 to FF.

Generate and evaluate colors

  1. Choose 1 to 24 colors in the free random HEX color generator.
  2. Select Generate colors and compare the previews.
  3. Copy promising values into a design mockup.
  4. Check text contrast, focus states and appearance on different screens.

Every result is an independent random 24-bit RGB value, so repeats are possible. Randomness is useful for exploration, not for deciding whether a palette is accessible or coherent.

Turn a result into a palette

Choose one random color as a starting point, then deliberately create lighter and darker values for surfaces, borders and states. Do not assign several unrelated random colors to one interface and expect visual hierarchy to emerge.

For text and controls, test the actual foreground/background pair against the accessibility target your product follows. A color can look vivid in a swatch and still fail contrast.

Common questions

Does letter case change a HEX color?

Are random colors saved?
