When PNG is the better choice

PNG uses lossless compression, so sharp edges and flat colors stay clean. This often suits diagrams, slides, screenshots and pages with small text. Photographic pages can be much larger as PNG than as JPG.

DPI determines pixel dimensions. Doubling the resolution roughly doubles width and height, creating about four times as many pixels.

Convert PDF pages to PNG

  1. Choose a PDF in the PDF to PNG tool.
  2. Enter the physical pages to render, such as 2-4, 9.
  3. Choose a resolution in DPI.
  4. Select Render PNG images.
  5. Inspect the output at the size where it will be used, then download the files.

Choose resolution by destination

Use a moderate setting for web previews and a higher setting when readers need to zoom or print. Excessive resolution increases processing time, memory use and file size without improving the source PDF itself.

Rendering turns the complete page into pixels. Selectable text, links, annotations and form behavior do not carry into a PNG image.

Common questions

Does every selected page become a separate PNG?

Yes. The output preserves the selected page identities as individual images.

Should I use PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG for crisp text and graphics. Choose JPG when smaller photographic images are more important than lossless detail.
