How to use an HTML minifier safely
HTML minification removes dispensable whitespace and comments, but page behavior must be checked whenever inline spacing, templates, or preservation comments matter.
Open the HTML MinifierWhat HTML minification can remove
A conservative minifier can collapse ordinary whitespace and remove ordinary comments while leaving document structure in place. Preformatted content, scripts, and styles need separate rules because their internal text may be significant.
The smaller source can reduce transfer size and make generated output less verbose. It is still HTML, not a compressed archive, and server-level Brotli or gzip remains useful.
How to use an HTML minifier
- Start with tested, trusted HTML and keep the readable source.
- Paste the markup or open a UTF-8 file.
- Enable whitespace collapsing only when exact text spacing is not significant.
- Choose whether ordinary comments may be removed.
- Select Minify HTML, then test the result in the real page.
The ToolPixels minifier keeps preformatted content, scripts, styles, conditional comments, server-side includes, license comments beginning with !, and ToolPixels manager markers.
A basic HTML minification example
Input
<main>
<h1>Tools</h1>
<!-- temporary note -->
</main>
Compact output
<main><h1>Tools</h1></main>
Whitespace is not always disposable
Spaces between inline elements can affect displayed text. CSS white-space rules, email HTML, templating syntax, and text assembled across element boundaries all deserve testing. Disable whitespace collapsing when the source depends on exact spacing.
Comment removal also needs care. Build systems, licenses, old conditional markup, and static-site injection markers may depend on particular comments.
Minification checks before release
- Compare text spacing and inline links.
- Test forms, scripts, styles, and responsive layouts.
- Confirm required comments and template directives remain.
- Never treat minification as sanitization of untrusted markup.
- Keep the original source and produce minified HTML as an artifact.
Try it with ToolPixels
Minify trusted HTML locally with optional conservative whitespace and comment removal.
